Step-by-step

  1. 1Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil.
  2. 2Cook 250g bowtie pasta 10–12 min until just tender, then drain.
  3. 3Return to the warm pan with 30g butter and toss until glossy.
  4. 4Spoon into bowls and finish with a light dusting of parmesan.
  5. 5Serve immediately while warm and soft.

Adapt for a picky eater

  • ·Make it milder: skip strong spices, herbs and onions — keep salt, butter or a touch of cheese instead.
  • ·Swap an ingredient: trade anything they avoid for a safe favourite (e.g. cucumber sticks instead of cooked veg).
